- [Workers’ Case Can Proceed](https://immigrantcollaborative.org/workers-case-can-proceed/): Last month, Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores (CCT) invited MIC to join them to support a group of their members at the July 6th hearing for their case, Diaz Perez et. al. v. Marder et. al. The plaintiffs are Central American immigrants, current and former workers at a major seafood company in New Bedford, where they experienced extortion and other abuses. CCT and its legal partner, Justice at Work, helped the workers file a legal complaint last October. Shortly afterward, the company retaliated by firing six workers. On July 6, Judge Leo T. Sorokin heard arguments about whether the workers’ case could be forced out of court and into arbitration.

- [Pioneer Valley Immigration Legal Services Conference](https://immigrantcollaborative.org/pioneer-valley-immigration-legal-services-conference/): Last week the Massachusetts Immigrant Collaborative (M.I.C.), along with Pioneer Valley Workers Center, Metrowest Worker Center, and New North Citizens’ Council held its first ever Pioneer Valley Immigration Legal Services Conference in Springfield, MA. The event drew 135 people and featured workshops for community members and service providers, as well as free immigration legal consultations, assistance with MassHealth applications, and information on how to obtain a driver’s license.

We began 2024 by coming together for our annual retreat and spent the day sharing our accomplishments, what we learned in 2023, and how these learnings will shape our priorities going forward. Most importantly, we heard about each other’s successes, challenges, the communities each of us serves and how each partner supports and empowers them. Some serve as welcome centers for newcomers arriving daily, connecting them to shelter and resources. Several offer hunger relief including bulk food distribution and meals; and others provide education and leadership opportunities for young immigrants.

- [The Massachusetts Immigrant Collaborative partners with the City of Boston to support Boston families](https://immigrantcollaborative.org/the-massachusetts-immigrant-collaborative-partners-with-the-city-of-boston-to-support-boston-families/): In partnership with the City of Boston Equity and Inclusion Cabinet, the Massachusetts ImmigrantCollaborative is excited to announce a new initiative to meet the basic needs of immigrant community members in the City. For one year, the Immigrant Economic Recovery Initiative (IERI)will support 200 low-income immigrant households disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 inBoston by providing monthly unconditional cash assistance of $600, as well as opportunities to participate in workforce trainings for an additional $200 and savings-based incentives to earn an additional $100 each month. In total, participants could receive a total of $900 per month.
- [Governor Healey Declares State of Emergency](https://immigrantcollaborative.org/governor-healey-declares-state-of-emergency/): On Tuesday August 8th, Governor Maura Healey declared that a state of emergency exists in Massachusetts due to the rising number of recently arriving migrant families in need of shelter and services. Along with this declaration, Healey appealed to the federal government for financial support, immigration reform, and expedited processing of work authorizations. In a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Governor Healey pointed to work authorizations as a primary driver of the crisis.
